GWS Academy zone changes

GREATER Western Sydney have lost access to one of their most controversial recruiting zones from their academy pool after the AFL commission met yesterday and are believed to have removed part of the Giants southern NSW zone, which includes Albury.

Possible top ten prospects Jarrod Brander and Charlie Spargo both hail from southern NSW and thus have been ruled ineligible to be an academy selection to the Giants.

The pair are both boarding at private schools in Victoria and have been named in the GWS Giants Academy squad for the division two championships which begin next weekend.

Another change that the commission has implemented will be the number of academy prospects that the four northern clubs can take at the draft.

Depending on their finishing position on the ladder, teams that finish in the top four will be restricted to one academy player in the top 20 of the draft.
