Team of the Week: VFLW – Round 5

ROUND five of the Victorian Football League (VFL) Women’s saw some familiar faces of the competition shine once again. The round also saw NT, Collingwood and Geelong distance themselves at the top of the ladder. After their losses in round five, Carlton and Hawthorn do not have any representatives in the Team of the Week.

First-time winners, Casey dominate the backline, with Harriet Cordner and Darcy Guttridge lining up in the best 22. Meanwhile, Kaila Bentvelzen takes her rightful spot at centre-half forward after her five goal haul. AFLW players, Emma Kearney and Angela Foley were the standouts on the weekend. Foley dominated in the midfield for NT, and also kicked two goals. Emma Kearney also lived up to her AFLW reputation and shone in the midfield, while also kicking two goals for Melbourne University.

Emily Paterno was unlucky to miss out on a spot in the Team of the Week, as she was a star up forward for Williamstown with two goals. Sophie Li is also unfortunate to miss out as she was a shinning light for the Blues in their big loss to Darebin.
