SUMMARY: Hard-nosed Richmond VFL midfielder Charlie Thompson has hit the ground running in the state league system after being narrowly overlooked in his draft year. The former Oakleigh Charger is strong in contested ball situations, prying the ball free and using his 82kg frame to break free from opponents. Thompson's attitude has also attracted plaudits this year, with his work rate and willingness to battle for the team going above and beyond regular standards. While his yo-yo test score was a respectable 20.7, Thompson's work rate is more so reflected behind the scenes and in his competitiveness. A midfielder at heart, Thompson can also double as a combative small forward, throwing his weight around and tackling hard inside 50. He has always lacked a touch of speed though, running a 3.18 second 20m sprint - which is certainly sub-par for a player of his size and position. Still, Thompson is a ready-made prospect who puts in the required work, which certainly counts for something in recruiters' eyes.
