TASMANIA and GWS GIANTS Academy comprise almost 50 per cent of the extended Allies National Under 18 Championships squad that was announced today. Among the Tasmanians are top 10 fancy and North Melbourne Next Generation Academy member Tarryn Thomas, as well as midfielder Chayce Jones and small forward Blair Rubock. For the GIANTS, Murray Bushrangers’ Matt Walker, Ben Kelly, Nick Murray and Jacob Koschitzke have made the side, as has GIANTS MVP Award winner ruck Kieran Briggs.
Brisbane Lions Academy has eight members have made the cut, including Connor McFadyen – who booted five goals in the final game – and Keidan Coleman. Gold Coast Suns Academy also had eight nominees including father-son prospect Bailey Scott, talented key position swingman Caleb Graham, and tackling machine Timakoi Bowie. Despite winning four of the five Under 18 Academy games, Sydney Swans Academy only had six representatives in the Allies squad, with first round prospect Nick Blakey, as well as consistent performers across the series, Josh Stern and Joey Reinhard also in the squad. Northern Territory had just the four nominees including AFL Academy member Matthew Green, and the talented Michael Mummery.
The National Under 18 Championships begin on June 3, with the Allies set to battle against strong competition from South Australia, Western Australia, Vic Metro and Vic Country for the Division One title.
